The Support Geuaga Military project was started in the summer of 2008 by Lisa Thoreson and Dan Kalleres (far right and 3rd from
the right, respectively), who work together at the Howard Hanna office in Chesterland on Mayfield Road.
Through people Lisa knew in the military, she learned that there were a lot of men and women from Geauga County serving in
Iraq, Afghanistan and other places where many of the items that we take for granted are not easily obtainable.
They wanted to put together a community support project that would identify the people serving overseas and a list of
items that are frequently asked for to send over as care packages.
Dan put together the website and they started meeting with other people in their office to gather up support. With the entire
office helping out in different ways, they've collected a bunch of donation items and funds from local residents, charitable groups
like the Young at Heart Club, and donations from several churches such as the Community Church of Chesterland and New Freedom Ministries.
The plan is to continue to bring in donations and collect the names of those people from Geauga County that are serving overseas
in Iraq, Afghanistan and the like, and to continue to send care packages to the troops to show them that we miss them!
